You might have noticed I’ve just released an alpha3 on SourceForge.net:
kompozer-0.8a3-win32.zip (Windows™ archive)
kompozer-0.8a3-mac-universal.dmg (MacOS X™ disk image)
kompozer-0.8a3-gcc4.2-i686.tar.gz (GNU/Linux archive)
kompozer-0.8a3-src.tar.bz2 (source tarball)
Ismael Olea has also contributed an RPM package, built on Fedora Core 10. ¡Muchas gracias!
<edit> Jean-Lucien Baudoin has just contributed a 64-bit RPM package, also built on Fedora Core 10. Merci ! </edit>
I won’t describe the new features because I’ve received too many regression reports already, one of them being a blocker. I’ll release an alpha4 ASAP to fix these regressions, feel free to report bugs in the SourceForge tracker in the meanwhile.
On the positive side, KompoZer 0.8 is now ready for localization. Cédric Corazza has done a great job to set up an l10n repository, and we’ve designed a script to help l10n teams creating langpacks for KompoZer 0.8 — either by upgrading an existing KompoZer 0.7 langpack, or by creating one from scratch using the Mozilla 1.8 locales. I’ll give more details when the alpha4 is published in another post, but you can contact me about that already.
If you want to contribute to this project (patches, translation, builds, whatever), you’re welcome to join us on the #kompozer chan.

Ooooooh! After years of waiting I see that KompoZer is not death!

Tim: the SourceForge tracker or forums like KompoZer-web.de are more suitable to report bugs. ;-)
I just downloaded 0.8a4 and it looks really good!
Source pane is back, yay -- looks like the Composer source-pane drop-in you'd mentioned earlier. Glad to see it, with or without syntax highlighting!
Tried out the site manager (local mode only so far; even that is a win) -- this is looking a whole lot like Dreamweaver's site manager ... have you thought at all about a locking scheme, such as DW has? Just wondering; I don't do anything with Kompozer which would require locks.
Aside: For composing text WYSIWYG rules. Bluefish, for example, cannot hold a candle to Kompozer on this score. For fancy scripts, sure, you need the source view, and maybe you even need an external editor -- for the Perl and PHP scripts I've done for petitions on one or two sites, I've used Emacs -- but for entering content, seeing the source just gets in the way.
Think about this: How much serious text composition is done these days using LaTex, versus MSWord or OpenOffice? LaTex is extremely flexible, very powerful -- but if you're trying to organize your thoughts and lay them out in a document, all those braces and junk are just clutter you don't need and don't want.
In other words, WYSIWYG is a powerful a productivity tool.
I just installed KompoZer 0.8a3 for OSX on my MacBook. The performance improvement is dramatic! It must have been recompiled for the Intel Core. Thanks very much!
If this is the case, you might mention it in the changelog.
On the other hand, I uninstalled 0.7 by dragging it to trash. I lost all my settings, servers, directories, etc. No big deal in my case.
